Unfortunately, I am not able to tie cast nets right now due to time restrictions.  I am still making beach seines though.  I will update the site as time allows me to get back into the cast nets again.  Thanks

CURRIE CAST NETS, PRICES AND ORDERING

spread

Currie Custom Cast Nets are all hand tied by myself and are designed to open easily and fully. The nets are all panel nets(sometimes called gore nets) and are made from panels of machine tied, depth stretched mesh. . The panels are all hand cut and hand tied. What differentiates a good net from a cheap net is the manner in which the mesh is cut and tied into a net. For more info on this check the "Why a Custom Net?" page.

spreadAll of my nets are tied with 8 panels that are cut extra wide. This allows the net to open to the fullest possible diameter, compared to the cheaper commercially made nets. The panels are sewn together by tieing new mesh, I do not just "lace" them together as is common on some nets. I use #9 bonded twine to tie the mesh to the horn as well as "hang" the leadline. The leadline is made of 3/16" braided polyethylene rope or 3/16" polypropylene when a stiffer leadline is preferred or needed. All of my leadlines are measure the full circumference dictated by the radius of the net. I use igh quality lead that is slightly oblong, rather than the cheaper and less effective long, tapered lead. The oblong shape fits the mesh better than round but has the same positive advantages as the round lead. I can hang your net with whatever weight of lead you prefer, but certain weights prove to work better depending on the size of the net, primary use of the net and size and diameter of the mesh. This, along with other options, is discussed when you place an order for a net. The standard handline is 30ft long, but can be ordered longer or shorter. I use 1/4" braided polypropylene for the handline. The poly rope is easy on the hands, floats and resists kinking and knotting.

Since I personally hand tie all of the nets, the length of time between ordering and completion of the net will vary. When you request a quote or want to place an order I will let you knowf how long it will take to complete your net.

BASE NET PRICES

The prices below are the base price for that net with the standard lead and handline length. These are custom nets so changes are welcome, but some will be at an additional cost. If you are looking for a size of net or mesh that is not listed, please email me with the info and I will quote you a price. I do not get many requests for nets smaller than 8ft radius or with larger mesh so I have not listed them, but I do tie them. I do not tie nets that are smaller than 1/2" bar (1" stretch) mesh and it is pretty rare that I do one with the 1/2" bar mesh since the work involved in a net with mesh this small makes them quite expensive, but if you want a 1/2" bar mesh net, I can give you a price for it. If you have any questions please email me.

Shipping is not included in the base prices below.

OPTIONS

Lead- I can alter the amount of lead I hang on your net. Up to a certain amount, depending on the size of net, there is no extra cost but over that there will be an added cost of $5.00 per additional pound. Each net works best with a certain range of lead hung on it, depending on the size of the net and the mesh. I will discuss the best weight with you when you place your order, but if want more or less I will hang the weight you want.
Horn size- I have 3 sizes of horns available. Small= 3/4", suggested for a net that will be used primarily for shrimping. Medium= 1 1/4", a good compromise for an all around net. Large= 2 to 2 1/4", primarily used on nets that will be used for larger bait fish or fish.
Mesh diameter- This is listed in the tables above. Each mesh has certain advantages and disadvantages. The lighter mesh- throws better and easier, sinks faster and has less drag so the net stays open longer in deeper water, but the lighter mesh is easier to tear and will need more repairing. The heavier mesh is much less prone to tears but is heavier, stiffer and harder to throw and has more drag in the water. This means it closes faster as it sinks and does not work as well in deeper water.
Handline- Standard length is listed above, but I can use less or more depending on your needs. Longer than listed will add $1.00 per 5ft extra. If you want to have a different diameter handline, rather than the standard 1/4", I will put on what you want but there will be an additional cost. Remember that the longer or thicker the handline is, the more bulk you will be holding in your throwing hand. Conversely, a handline that is to thin will fatigue your hand and be harder to grip.

REPAIRS

I do make repairs to nets, but due to the cost of shipping it is most likely not worth the money unless you are local. If you are near Savannah or Brunswick or might want to ship the net to me drop me an email with what repairs are needed. The cost will depend on the net and the repairs needed.

ORDERING

To order a net, please call or send an email or letter to:

Tim Currie
Currie Custom Cast Nets

(912)368-5452
email: tcurrie@curriecustomnets.com

Please include the info about the net that you want- size, mesh, weight and other options. If you are not sure what custom net you want or need, please contact me with some info on what you want to do with the net, your abilities and where you will be using the net. I will give you some suggestions to help you decide on the net that is right for you.

If you order a net, I will need to receive payment before I ship the net. Right now I accept payment 3 ways. If you want to make an online or credit card payment, I accept PayPal payments but will have to add a 3% service charge. If you want to pay by personal check, I will need to have some time to let the check clear before shipping the net. If you pay by Money Order or Cashier's check then the net will ship as soon as I finish it. When you request the quote or place an order I will let you know how long it will take to finish your net so you don't pay to far in advance. However if you are paying by check it might be in your favor to send it early so it has time to clear. Shipping is not included in the net prices and will be determined at the time ordering.
